News and Notes

Thank You, Dr. Harris!
Riverside joins in extending heartfelt gratitude to board member and philanthropist Dr. Louis S. Harris, who recently presented a $10,000 gift to the school. The grant  will be used to enhance technological resources in Riverside’s Language Fundamentals (LF) department, as well as to facilitate the progress of Riverside’s students in overcoming dyslexia.

The gift, on behalf of Dr. Harris and his widow, Ruth Harris, honors longtime Riverside LF instructor Carolyn Webb, who owns the distinction of being one of the few Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators (AOGPE) Fellows in the country.

Mark Your Calendars for Thursday, May 30!

YOU WILL NOT WANT TO MISS Riverside’s New Parent Testing Workshop on Thursday, May 30 from 6-7 p.m.

Debra Mitchell, Associate Head of School, and Cynthia Davis, O-G Coordinator, will share information about your child’s testing results, which you will receive at the end-of-year conference. You’ll learn what each assessment measures and exactly why we give it. You’ll discover what you can learn from our curriculum based assessments and how that compares to standardized testing results. We’ll also analyze some real testing (from former students) to make it all come to life.

You don’t have to miss out! You’re invited to come to our Returning Parent Testing Workshop on the same night from 7:15-8 p.m.

Questions? Please contact Riverside at (804) 320-3465.

See you soon!

Development Update

FOUNDER’S DAY IS TOMORROW and the Development Office is abuzz with preparations and excitement!

If you can make it to the reception at 2:30 p.m. honoring Becky Hollingsworth, Diane Garofalo, and Christine Bachmann, please join us. Kids are welcome, and
Riverside’s own Linda Paige will be catering the event
with snacks.

Finally, if you have been waiting to make your Annual Fund gift, there has never been a better time. Four challenge grants totaling $14,000 are attainable tomorrow.

  • – Reach 10 donations during the Day of Giving = $1,000

  • – Reach 25 alumni donors for the year (10 to go) = $5,000
  • – Reach 100% current parent participation for the year (49% to go) = $5,000
