Reminder: Parents Workshops Set for This Evening (May 30)

YOU WILL NOT WANT TO MISS Riverside’s New Parent Testing Workshop, set for this evening, Thursday, May 30 from 6-7 p.m.

Debra Mitchell, Associate Head of School, and Cynthia Davis, O-G Coordinator, will share information about your child’s testing results, which you will receive at the end-of-year conference.
You’ll learn what each assessment measures and exactly why we give it.

You’ll discover what you can learn from our curriculum based assessments and how that compares to standardized testing results. We’ll also analyze some real testing (from former students) to make it all come to life.

You don’t have to miss out on tonight’s event! You’re invited to come to our Returning Parent Testing Workshop this evening from 7:15-8 p.m.

Questions? Please contact Riverside at (804) 320-3465.

See you soon!

Ambassador Families Needed
The 2018-19 school year is rapidly coming to a close. Plans for the 2019-20 school year are already in the works.

We want to continue the Ambassador Family Program at Riverside School. This program partners returning families with new families to make them feel welcome in the Riverside community. Ambassador Families will answer questions and offer advice on everything from school drop-off to extracurricular activities. Some Ambassador Families set up a summer play date at a public location to introduce the children.

If you are interested in becoming an Ambassador Family, please e-mail Debra Mitchell, Riverside’s Associate Head of School, at: dmitchell@riversideschool.org.

Thank you in advance.

Development Update

I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THIS LAST E-NEWSLETTER of Riverside’s school year as an opportunity to thank you all for welcoming me into this wonderful community. I can’t say how nice it has been to get to know you and your families since coming aboard. Riverside is truly a special place, and I consider myself fortunate to be even a small part of it.

It has been a great year for Development, as we have made strides in fundraising for grants, endowment and the Annual Fund. We couldn’t have done any of that without the support of Riverside families, friends, and staff, or in other words…you.

There is still time before the end of the month to jump on the train and help build the momentum that will carry Riverside forward. Our final goal of the year of 100 percent parent participation is within reach: https://riversideschool.org/donate-now/.

Thanks again, and if I don’t see you, have a great summer!

— Leo Rohr
Director of Development

from the desk of…
the Head of School

I WANTED TO USE THIS COLUMN TO THANK two of our parents who have shown exemplary service and dedication to Riverside School—Parents’ Association Co-Presidents Elizabeth Coleman and Kim Alley-Trownsell.

Elizabeth and Kim became Parents’ Association Co-Presidents in the summer of 2017, when I came to Riverside, and they have been invaluable to me in my education about our school, our student body, and our families. They have been tireless volunteers for programs like the student lunch program and the New Family Ambassador program, and they have been a vital part of just about every school special event held in the last two years, including Founder’s Day and the New Family Popsicle Parties.

Perhaps the single most important yearly event for the Riverside School community is the Harvest Moon Festival, and Elizabeth’s and Kim’s leadership has made Harvest Moon a resounding success on all fronts.

The professional and welcoming atmosphere of both the Library and the Front Office, including the Head of School’s Office and the Admissions Office, is thanks to a re-modeling effort led by Elizabeth and Kim.

Through the Parents’ Association, Elizabeth and Kim have stewarded an amazing culture of teacher appreciation, including coordination of the Sunshine Treats program and Teacher Appreciation Week.

There are many more examples of Elizabeth’s and Kim’s service that I could list, including the development of the Riverside video on our web page, making Riverside spirit-wear available to families, coordinating volunteers for summer clean-up day for Ticer Hall, and sponsoring parent social events, among others.

On behalf of Riverside School, thank you, Elizabeth and Kim, for your outstanding service over the past two years as Parents’ Association Co-Presidents!

— Hal Waller

In Their Own Words
