Remote Language Fundamentals Instruction Available to Absent Students
Riverside is now offering remote Language Fundamentals instruction to any student who is absent from school. All you have to do is make the request by 8 a.m. on the day of the absence to our Office Manager, Denise Glidden, via phone or e-mail:
(804) 320-3465 or dglidden@riversideschool.org.

We ask that all remote lessons be taught with our students signed-in to their Riverside Google accounts. In order to do this, you will need to have Google Chrome installed on your home computer or device. Here’s a short video tutorial for how to do that:

Parents’ Association News

RIGHT AROUND THIS TIME OF YEAR, we’re typically preparing for Harvest Moon,
our Fall social event where families connect and we raise funds for Riverside.
Hopefully, we will be able to safely bring families together in the Spring.

In the meantime, we will be collecting box tops. You can send in the physical box
tops with your child and we will submit them. Additionally, box tops has been converting
to an electronic version where you scan your receipt.

Development Update

MR. WALLER AND I ARE FINISHING UP our second week of meetings with new parents. It is so nice to get the chance to talk with Riverside families and get to know you better. We are looking forward to our remaining meetings tomorrow and next week.

I’m also looking forward to the two parent coffees we have scheduled for next week. All parents are welcome to join us for those (see above for dates, times, and links).

from the desk of…
the Head of School

FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS, I have been meeting via Zoom with the families of our new students. Even though we aren’t able to meet in person, it is great to see parents “face to face” via Zoom.

In these meetings, I always ask about how the school year is going for them and for their children, I ask about their ‘path’ to Riverside, and I ask about how we are doing with our COVID response protocols.

I am happy to share that the responses from our new families so far have been overwhelmingly positive. Even in a time of COVID, students are having great experiences at Riverside.

Of course a big part of that is the Orton-Gillingham Approach to education, which informs everything we do here at Riverside.

But most importantly, it is our amazing teachers and instructors who ensure the success of our students. As I have said many times, I have not had the privilege of working with a more professional, more highly-trained faculty than the one we have here at Riverside. Our teachers understand how our students learn, and they have a heart for our students that is truly inspiring.

— Hal Waller
Head of School
