Parents’ Association Volunteer Opportunities

A Heartfelt Thank You and Upcoming Events
Thank you to all of the parents who attended our first Parents’ Association Meeting yesterday. Meeting minutes will be included in next week’s announcements.

The next Parents’ Association Meeting is Wednesday, October 10.
The special guest speaker will be Suzie Eklund, Riverside’s Director of Language Fundamentals, who will present an in-depth understanding of the Language Fundamentals lesson.

On Wednesday, November 14, Juliette Sykes, a former Riverside parent and current Board member, will discuss the possible tax benefits for Riverside parents and recent changes to tax laws, including new K-12 options for 529 plans.

Harvest Moon Social
The Harvest Moon Social is Friday, October 19 at 7 p.m. in the Riverside School Courtyard. This is a great way to catch up with old friends and meet new families. There is also an auction to help raise money for our school.

If you would like to help collect donations or have a donation for the auction, please e-mail Brittany Cooper at bncoop@comcast.net.

If you have a business or know of a business that would like to be listed in our Directory of Corporate Supporters in the Auction Booklet, please complete the attached form.

Volunteers for Distribution of Lunches
As a fundraiser, the Parents’ Association coordinates lunch orders from various restaurants.

If you would like to order lunches for the month of October, please complete the attached form and return it to school no later than Thursday, September 20. We still need parent volunteers to help distribute lunches on Fridays from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Development Update: Riverside Staff Steps Up!
Next Stop–Phone-a-thon

I AM PLEASED TO REPORT that Riverside’s faculty and staff reached 100 percent participation in Ann ual Fund giving for the fourth year in a row! It is truly inspiring to work with colleagues who care so much about this school and our students that they are willing to donate their hard-earned money right back.

The next step in the Annual Fund Campaign is our Fall Phone-a-thon, and we are looking for volunteer callers on the evenings of September 24 and 26. We will provide dinner and training, so no prior experience is necessary. Phone-a-thon is a fun occasion to interact with other people who love the school.

Learn more and sign up here!

Those of you who donated last year should be seeing the 2017-18 Annual Report in your mailbox. You can also read the report on our website.

the Head of School

THANKS SO MUCH TO ALL OF THE PARENTS who were able to come out for our Parents’ Association meeting this past Wednesday morning.

Riverside has an excellent Parents’ Association, and a great deal of credit for that goes to the group’s leadership. Thank you to both Kim Alley-Trownsell and Elizabeth Coleman for serving as co-presidents.

Please be on the look-out for upcoming volunteer opportunities, including the upcoming Fall Festival in October and the Phone-a-thon at the end of this month. For our Fall Phone-a-thon, it is especially important that we have current parents, so if you can spare a few hours to help the school, please do sign up.

I’m pretty confident at this time that all of our parents have signed up for our “Riverside alert” system. It looks like the anticipated weather event will be less serious than was thought before, but we will continue to be vigilant in the coming months and keep communication lines open.

Quote of the Week
