New for the 2019-20 School Year––Riverside Set to Introduce a Robotics Club
Wednesday, August 14th, 2019

New for the 2019-20 school year, Riverside is introducing a Robotics Club for students. Riverside Robotics is the school’s brand new team which will compete in the FIRST LEGO League.

Applications for interested individuals will be sent home the first day of school (Aug. 26). Interested students must turn in their signed permission slip by Friday Aug. 30 to get an interview slot scheduled for Sept. 3-5 during school hours. For the interview, please come prepared to talk about why you’d like to join the club and what strengths you bring to the team.

The club will accept up to 10 students from grades 5-8 (open to all Intermediate School students) and will begin meeting starting on Sept. 10 from 3:05-4:30 p.m. and sessions will take place through at least mid-November. The cost is $150 for the 12-week session.

This year’s innovation project will include identifying a problem with a building or public space in our community. Students will research to find a potential solution. This solution will be presented at the competition. Another aspect of First LEGO League is designing and programming a robot to perform missions.
